MLB: Boston 4, NY Yankees 2

NEW YORK, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Curt Schilling pitched seven innings on an injured ankle and Mark Bellhorn hit a three-run homer Tuesday as Boston beat the New York Yankees, 4-2.

The Red Sox escaped elimination for a third straight game by winning Game 6 of the American League Championship Series.

The series is now tied at 3-3 and the deciding seventh game will be played Wednesday night in New York.

Bellhorn's homer came in a four-run fourth inning as the Red Sox who became the first team in baseball history to rally from a 3-0 deficit and force a Game 7.

Schilling allowed one run on four hits while striking out four before turning it over to the Boston bullpen. Bronson Arroyo pitched the eighth inning and Keith Foulke, who worked the ninth for the save, struck out Tony Clark with two men on base to end the game.

Schilling, told he will need offseason surgery,missed his scheduled Game 5 start. He pitched Tuesday thanks to a custom-made boot that was fitted to protect his ankle.
