NFL: San Diego 38, Tennessee 17

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Drew Brees threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns Sunday when the Diego Chargers defeated the Tennessee Titans, 38-17.

Brees completed 16-of-20 passes. LaDainian Tomlinson had 147 yards rushing on 17 carries, and scored his third touchdown of the season for the Chargers (2-2).

Tennessee (1-3) played without quarterback Steve McNair, who is sidelined with a severely bruised sternum suffered last week against Buffalo. His replacement, Billy Volek, connected on 39-of-58 passes for 278 yards with a pair of touchdowns.

The Chargers used a five-play, 89-yard drive on their second possession to grab a 7-0 lead. Brees was 3-for-3 on the drive for 73 yards, including a 49- yard connection with Reche Caldwell. Tomlinson contributed the other 29 yards on the ground, including a 15-yard scoring scamper.

The teams combined for three touchdowns in the final 7:04 to account for the 38-17 final.
