Jeff DaVanon scored once and drove in a run for Anaheim, which will host Boston Tuesday in the opener of a best-of-five division series.

Angels reliever Kevin Gregg walked Eric Byrnes leading off the home eighth and Byrnes stole second. Swisher singled with one out and Byrnes raced home to give the A's a 3-2 lead.

Angels starter Aaron Sele allowed five hits through six scoreless innings, but Swisher singled and Jermaine Dye double to begin the visitors' seventh inning. Gregg took over on the hill and Melhuse greeted the new pitcher with a two-run double to tie the game.
