MLB: NY Yankees 3, Kansas City 0

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Javier Vazquez won for the first time in more than a month Wednesday, throwing seven shutout innings as the New York Yankees downed Kansas City, 3-0.

Derek Jeter and Tony Clark hit home runs with Jeter going three for four with two doubles.

The Yankees will have Thursday off before hosting the Boston Red Sox in a critical three-game series.

Kansas City did not score in either of the final two games of the three-game series after producing 17 in the opener.

Vazquez (14-9) had gone 0-3 in his last five starts. His last victory had come on Aug. 6.
