MLB: N.Y. Yankees 1, Toronto 0

NEW YORK, July 22 (UPI) -- A walk-off solo home run by Reuben Sierra Thursday gave the New York Yankees a 1-0 victory over Toronto.

It was the Blue Jays' third straight loss and ninth in their last 10 games.

Yankees starter Orlando Hernandez and his Toronto counterpart, former Yankee Ted Lilly, were involved in a pitchers' duel for six-plus innings.

Hernandez allowed just four hits and one walk in seven innings and struck out 10. Mariano Rivera got the win.

Lilly surrendered three hits, no runs, and three walks in 6 2/3 innings. Losing pitcher Vinny Chulk, who gave up Sierra's homer, fell to 0-2.

The Yankees now lead second-place Boston by nine games in the American League East.
