BOSTON, July 11 (UPI) -- Alfonso Soriano snapped a late tie with a sacrifice fly and Francisco Cordero pitched two scoreless innings Sunday as Texas defeated Boston, 6-5.
Rod Barajas led off the eighth with a single off Red Sox closer Keith Foulke (2-2) and Michael Young followed with a double that sent pinch runner Jason Conti to third.
Foulke struck out Hank Blalock before Soriano lofted a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Conti for a 6-5 lead.
Cordero gave up a leadoff single to Nomar Garciaparra in the eighth. But the hard-throwing righthander struck out Trot Nixon and Dave McCarty around a foulout by Kevin Millar.
Cordero also worked out of trouble in the ninth. After allowing a leadoff walk to Bill Mueller, he retired pinch hitter Manny Ramirez on a popout, picked off pinch runner Pokey Reese, and struck out Mark Bellhorn.
Johnny Damon had tied it with a homer in the seventh.
