BASTAD, Sweden, July 8 (UPI) -- Second seed Gaston Gaudio posted a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Olivier Patience Thursday, keeping alive his bid for a second title in a month.
Gaudio rallied past Guillermo Coria, 0-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 8-6, at Roland Garros for his first Grand Slam crown and third ATP Tour title overall -- all on clay. He lost a final to Tommy Robredo on the dirt of Barcelona in May.
Rafael Nadal set up a quarterfinal showdown with Gaudio by pounding Santiago Ventura, 6-1, 6-2. Nadal, 18, appeared in his first career final at the Heineken Open in January.
Also Thursday, fourth seed Juan Ignacio Chela outlasted Fernando Verdasco, 6-4, 7-5. Chela's quarterfinal opponent will be Robin Soderling, 19, who is seeking his first career title.
Soderling upset fifth seed Tommy Robredo, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
