MLB: Texas 9, Pittsburgh 7 (1st Game)

ARLINGTON, Texas, June 10 (UPI) -- Chris Stynes' error in the seventh allowed two runs to score Thursday night as Texas rallied to beat Pittsburgh, 9-7, in the opener of a doubleheader.

After losing their third straight game on Monday, the Pirates had a reprieve as their next two contests were rained out. But they could not avoid their ninth defeat in 10 games in this one, despite overcoming an early four-run deficit to take a 7-5 lead.

Herbert Perry drew Texas within a run with a leadoff homer in the sixth and poor defense cost the Pirates the lead in the seventh.

Brian Meadows (2-2) relieved starter Oliver Perez and got Rod Barajas to hit a grounder that shortstop Jack Wilson misplayed for an error.

After a wild pitch, Eric Young singled to put runners on the corners.

Young stole second and, one out later, Alfonso Soriano was walked intentionally to load the bases. John Grabow came on and got a potential double-play grounder from Mark Teixeira, but Stynes' throw to second was offline, allowing two runs to score.
