Making his first major league start, Ryan Madson retired just two of the nine batters he faced before being replaced. The lanky righthander, who yielded six runs and six hits, served up three home runs after allowing just one in his first 35 2/3 innings.

After the Phillies tied the game 6-6 in the top of the second, Uribe and Thomas opened the bottom of the inning with back-to-back homers off Amaury Telemaco (0-2).

Thomas' blast was the 431st of his career, tying him with Cal Ripken Jr. for 31st on the all-time list. Thomas also had two doubles.
