Piazza drove in both runners with a double to right field and scored on a two-out single by Karim Garcia.

Piazza hit his 13th home run of the season in the fifth inning to open a 5-0 advantage.

Al Leiter (2-2) had a solid start for the Mets, pitching 5 2/3 scoreless innings and allowing just two singles. However, the veteran lefthander walked six.
