Drummond had never finished higher than 16th in any tournament on the circuit. He became the first player to win the tour's flagship event in his debut since Arnold Palmer in 1975.

Drummond missed the halfway cut in seven of his previous eight starts.

Swede Joakim Haeggman finished third and four-time winner Nick Faldo's closing 66 gave the Englishman a share of fourth with Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland and Hansen.
