Weibring wins Allianz Championship

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa, May 23 (UPI) -- D.A. Weibring was just good enough Sunday to complete a wire-to-wire victory at the seniors Allianz Championship.

Shooting an even-par 71, Weibring put the finishing touches on his second career win on the Champions Tour and first of the year.

He completed 54 holes at 9-under 204 and posted a three-shot victory over Tom Jenkins, who faced a four-shot deficit at the start of the round and could make up only one stroke with a 1-under 70.

The win was worth $225,000 for Weibring, who posted his seventh top-10 finish of the year, including a tie for second at the Bruno's Memorial Classic and a tie for ninth at the Kinko's Classic in his last two starts.

Tom Watson finished alone in third place at 208, one shot ahead of Raymond Floyd, Jay Sigel and Jim Thorpe.
