J.J. Putz relieved Garcia in the eighth inning but left after being hit on the right foot by an infield single by Ivan Rodriguez. Eddie Guardado came in for Putz and pitched two scoreless innings, working out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth for his sixth save.

Tigers starter Jeremy Bonderman (4-3) yielded three runs in five innings.
