MLB: San Diego 9, San Francisco 5

SAN FRANCISCO, April 21 (UPI) -- Barry Bonds homered for the seventh straight game but Sean Burroughs had four hits to help the San Diego Padres to a 9-5 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

It was the fifth loss in the Giants' last six outings at home.

Bonds belted a two-run shot over the right field wall and into McCovey Cove off Padres starter Brian Lawrence (2-1) in the fourth inning. The Giants' superstar is one shy of matching the record for consecutive games with a home run -- set by Dale Long and later matched by Don Mattingly and Ken Griffey Jr.

However, Bonds' blast came after San Diego built a 6-0 lead. Burroughs singled before Brian Giles' two-run homer and Jay Payton added an RBI single for a 3-0 edge before the Giants even got a chance to bat.

Burroughs' RBI double with one out in the fourth inning triggered a three-run uprising against Giants starter Dustin Hermanson (1-1). Phil Nevin singled in Burroughs and Ryan Klesko stroked an RBI double.

"I hit it where it was pitched." said Burroughs, who finished the night 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI.
