MLB: Minnesota 8, Kansas City 3

MINNEAPOLIS, April 18 (UPI) -- Jacque Jones tripled, doubled twice and drove in four runs and Luis Rivas hit a two-run homer Sunday to lead Minnesota to an 8-3 win over Kansas City.

The Twins extended their winning streak to five games and swept the Royals here in a three-game series for the first time since April 18-20, 2000.

A two-out, two-run double by Jones gave the Twins a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning.

Rivas hit his second homer of the season after Shannon Stewart doubled in the sixth inning. Rivas has hit four home runs off of Kansas City's Darrell May (0-3) and 12 of his career 21 homers against the Royals.

Jones added a two-run triple in the sixth to increase the lead to 8-3.

Joe Roa (2-1) pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.

Joe Randa hit a solo homer for the Royals.
