NHL: Detroit 2, Colorado 0

DETROIT, March 27 (UPI) -- Mathieu Schneider snapped a tie late in the second period Saturday and Manny Legace made 27 saves as the Detroit Red Wings blanked Colorado, 2-0.

The Red Wings limited the Avalanche to just three shots on goal during a four-minute power play midway through the second period and capitalized after Colorado's Chris Gratton was penalized for hooking 27 seconds before the intermission.

Detroit won a faceoff and two-time Norris Trophy winner Nicklas Lidstrom controlled the puck at the point.

With Pavel Datsyuk screening goaltender Tommy Salo, Schneider took a pass from Lidstrom and ripped a shot into the top right corner of the net for his 14th goal with 10 seconds left in the second.

Datsyuk doubled the lead 4:06 into the third. Salo turned aside a shot by Brett Hull, but Datsyuk collected the rebound and flipped a shot by Salo for his 29th goal.
