NHL: Tampa Bay 7, Toronto 2

TORONTO, March 23 (UPI) -- Fredrik Modin had a goal and two assists and Martin St. Louis set up three goals Tuesday as Tampa Bay defeated Toronto, 7-2.

Sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings, Tampa Bay wasted little time as Modin scored 2:49 into the first period. Alexander Mogilny drew Toronto even before defenseman Brad Lukowich put the Lightning ahead for good 52 seconds later with his first goal in 25 games.

Tampa Bay scored two more times before intermission and the teams traded tallies in the second period before Vincent Lecavalier netted a highlight-reel goal late in the third to secure the victory.

Martin Cibak capped the scoring for Tampa Bay.

The NHL's leading scorer, St. Louis raised his points total to a club-record 89. Nik Antropov had the other goal for the Maple Leafs, who fell three points behind first-place Boston in the Northeast Division.
