Sutton helped Atlanta rally from a pair of deficits and improve to 3
1-1 in its last five contests. He started his third career two-goal game at 12:41 of the second period, just under five minutes after rookie Alexander Semin staked Washington to a 1-0 lead.
Jeff Halpern scored on the power play with 5:40 left in the second, but the Thrashers continued to pepper goaltender Olaf Kolzig.
After Randy Robitaille won a faceoff from Halpern, Sutton used a screen set by Shawn McEachern and Dany Heatley to beat Kolzig from the slot.
