COL BKB: Providence 61, Boston College 52

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass., Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Ryan Gomes had 20 points and 11 rebounds as No. 21 Providence won its third straight Saturday with a 61-52 Big East Conference victory over Boston College.

Freshman Jared Dudley made 1-of-2 free throws to pull Boston College within, 48-45, with 6:35 left. But Rob Sanders three-pointer almost 30 seconds later ignited an 11-0 run for the Friars (17-5).

Freshman Dwight Brewington's follow shot capped the spurt with 3:11 remaining to open up a 59-45 advantage.

The Friars won for the ninth time in their last 11 games and improved to 6-3 on the road.

Boston College's Craig Smith, who averages a team-leading 17.9 points per game, was limited to 13. Smith suffered a back injury with 10:27 left in the second half.

The Eagles (16-8) had a three-game winning streak stopped.
