Portland's Wallace traded to Atlanta

PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Forward Rasheed Wallace of the Portland Trail Blazers was traded to Atlanta for forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim, center Theo Ratliff and point guard Dan Dickau.

Also included in the late Monday night trade to the Atlanta Hawks was guard Wesley Person.

The trade ends Wallace's 7.5-year tenure in Portland, where the two-time All-Star was the team's leading scorer for the past four seasons despite being booed by fans because of his volatile and temperamental behavior, the Portland Oregonian reported.

During the past three seasons, he was suspended four times, including an NBA-record seven-game suspension last season for attacking referee Tim Donaghy.

"The key is that we have been listening to what the community, our sponsors, our season ticket holders, and organization needed as a whole," said Trail Blazer President Steve Patterson. "We have been responding to that."

Wallace is in the last year of his $17-million contract.
