NHL: Detroit 2, Dallas 2 (OT)

DALLAS, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Teppo Numminen scored with 6:02 left in the third period Monday as the Dallas Stars managed a 2-2 tie with the Detroit Red Wings.

Tomas Holmstrom gave the Red Wings a 2-1 lead with a goal at 3:11 of the third when he picked off an errant pass and beat goaltender Marty Turco from just outside the crease.

The Stars kept up the pressure on the Red Wings, finally getting the equalizer on Numminen's shot from outside the right circle.

Both teams had chances in the wide-open overtime. Turco made seven saves, including one diving stop on Mathieu Schneider. A minute later, Stu Barnes was stopped by Manny Legace from in close, one of nine saves by the the goalie in the overtime.

Pavel Datsyuk opened the scoring with his 24th goal for Detroit. David Oliver tied it for Dallas with a power-play goal at at 18:34 of the first.
