LOS ANGELES, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Defenseman Mathieu Schneider scored twice against his former team Thursday night and Detroit held on for a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

Brett Hull ended a career-high 20-game drought as the Red Wings ended a three-game winless streak. One night earlier, they squandered a two-goal lead in a 2-2 tie at Anaheim.

Steve Thomas and defenseman Jamie Rivers had the other goals for Detroit, which improved to 1-1-1 on a five-game road trip with just their second win in seven contests.

Frolov collected two goals and an assist for the Kings, who had gone 12 home games without a regulation loss.
