Falcons introduce Jim Mora Jr.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Jim Mora Jr. was unveiled Friday as the new head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

The 42-year-old Mora was defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers the last five seasons.

Terms of his contract were not disclosed, but ESPN is reporting that he received a five-year deal worth $7.5 million. He is the son of former New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts coach Jim Mora.

"Jim has spent his entire life preparing for this opportunity, and he has a real passion for building a championship football team on and off the field," said Falcons owner Arthur Blank.

His hiring is the first major personnel move for Rich McKay, who was hired as Falcons' general manager last month.

In Atlanta, Mora takes over a team that struggled to a 5-11 record this past season, but has Michael Vick, one of the league's most exciting young players, who missed the first 11 because of a broken right fibula.

Mora replaces interim coach Wade Phillips after Dan Reeves was fired.
