NHL: Dallas 2, Atlanta 1

DALLAS, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Scott Young scored his second goal in as many games and Jason Arnott had two assists Thursday night as Dallas edged Atlanta, 2-1.

Given a one-month timetable to turn around their disappointing season by owner Tom Hicks, the Stars started the process against a team they had beaten in each of their previous seven meetings.

Dallas wasted little time as Steve Ott scored 1:49 into the game, jamming a loose puck past goaltender Pasi Nurminen for his second goal of the season.

Marty Turco, one of three Stars voted to start in the All-Star Game, made the goal stand through two periods, stopping nine shots in the first and four in the second. He finished with 15 saves for his 76th win, passing Andy Moog for sixth place on the franchise's all-time list.
