At Prince of Wales Hospital, Fenech, a former three-time champion, has undergone plastic surgery on his face, which was slashed by a broken bottle outside a restaurant in suburban Sydney. Eyewitnesses said he was attacked by four men.

The slashing, which occurred moments after he has placed his children in a limousine to go home, left a bone in Fenech's jaw exposed.

"I could have lost an eye or had my throat cut," Fenech said before the surgery. "I've never suffered an injury like this. I want these people to myself. I want to see these people on my own . . . one on one. The police should put us in a cell together."

Fenech, 39, now trains fighters.
