Report: Cardinals hire Dennis Green

BRISTOL, Conn., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- It looks like Dennis Green has become the latest former coach to return to the NFL.

ESPN is reporting that Green has agreed to a four-year deal to coach the Arizona Cardinals. He also was interviewed by Oakland and Washington, the latter of which has brought back Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs, who retired in 1992.

Last year, Bill Parcells came out of retirement to coach the Dallas Cowboys.

"Denny really believes he can get that thing (in Arizona) turned around," a source told ESPN.com. "If he can get himself a quarterback, and they'll be in position to draft somebody like (Eli) Manning, they could win in a couple years."

Green formerly coached the Minnesota Vikings, going 101-70 in 10 seasons with that club and to the playoffs eight times. He beat out recently fired New York Giants coach Jim Fazzel.

Reports indicate that Arizona also was interested in New England defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel, who cannot be interviewed until the Patriots are eliminated from the playoffs.
