NHL: Tampa Bay 6, Philadelphia 1

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Fredrik Modin had a hat trick for his first three goals in a month and Brad Richards had three assists as Tampa Bay beat Philadelphia, 6-1, Saturday.

Goalless in 13 games since Dec. 6, Modin forged a 1-1 tie midway through the first period, then put Tampa Bay ahead for good 75 seconds into the second with a power-play goal.

Less than 3 1/2 minutes later, he completed his second career hat trick by sliding the puck between the pads of goaltender Robert Esche after his centering pass was blocked.

Vincent Lecavalier made it 4-1 before the period ended and Ben Clymer and Ruslan Fedotenko broke a team record by scoring 11 seconds apart late in the third.

The Lightning snapped a five-game home losing streak against the Flyers.

Donald Brashear had the lone goal for Philadelphia, which had a three-game unbeaten streak stopped.
