White Sox dump Brian Daubach

CHICAGO, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox have requested waivers on first baseman-outfielder Brian Daubach for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

Daubach, 31, hit .230 (42-for-183) with six home runs and 21 RBI in 81 games last season after signing a minor league contract in February. This off-season, he obviously became a victim of a numbers game because the White Sox already have four of their best hitters, Frank Thomas, Paul Konerko, Magglio Ordonez, and Carlos Lee, playing his positions.

In parts of six major league seasons with Chicago, Boston, and Florida, he is a .262 hitter with 90 homers and 322 RBI. He hit at least 20 home runs and drove in no less than 70 runs in all four of his seasons with Boston, when he reached 400 at-bats in all but one season.
