NHL: Detroit 2, St. Louis 1

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Boyd Devereaux scored with 2:23 remaining Saturday to give the Detroit Red Wings their third straight victory, 2-1 over the St. Louis Blues.

The Red Wings clamped down on the Blues, handing them their third loss in 11 games and grabbing sole possession of first place in the NHL Central Division.

With two goals in his first 23 games, Devereaux was an unlikely hero. Defenseman Mathieu Dandenault picked off a clearing attempt along the right boards and threw a pass to the inner edge of the right faceoff circle, where Devereaux flicked a shot past former Red Wings goaltender Chris Osgood.

Manny Legace made 21 saves and has given up just two goals during Detroit's winning streak.

Petr Cajanek scored the lone goal for the Blues.
