Any chances Wisconsin had of moving back into the top 25 and beating Iowa for the sixth time in seven meetings evaporated when Badgers quarterback Jim Sorgi left with an apparent head injury. Tailback Anthony Davis also did not play in the second half after scoring twice in the first period.

Iowa (9-3, 5-3 Big Ten) took advantage of backup quarterback Matt Schabert on consecutive possessions. With Wisconsin ahead 21-17, Considine picked off a pass late in the third quarter and returned it 24 yards to the one.

On Wisconsin's next possesion, Schabert was intercepted by Sanders, setting up a 28-yard field goal.
