NHL: Buffalo 5, Carolina 0

BUFFALO, N.Y., Nov. 21 (UPI) -- J.P. Dumont scored the first and last goals of the game and Mika Noronen stopped 35 shots Friday night, giving Buffalo a 5-0 blanking of Carolina.

It was the second shutout of the season for Noronen.

Dumont gave Noronen all the support he needed with 2:33 remaining in the first period, netting his fifth goal of the season. After setting up Chris Drury's tally late in the second, he completed the rout at 4:10 of the final period.

After stopping just six shots in the first 20 minutes, Noronen was kept busy, making 12 saves in the second and 17 in the third.

Playing in just his third game, Jochen Hecht scored at 4:56 of the second period to give the Sabres a 2-0 cushion. Hecht missed the first seven weeks of the season with a broken left arm.
