OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The Oakland Raiders filled a void at quarterback late Tuesday by signing veteran Rob Johnson, two weeks after he was released by the Washington Redskins.
Terms were not disclosed.
With Rich Gannon out with a torn labrum and Marques Tuiasosopo going down with a knee injury in Sunday's loss at Detroit, the reeling Raiders were left with Rick Mirer, whose appearance against the Lions was his first since the 2000 season.
Johnson, 30, served a backup to Brad Johnson last season for the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rob Johnson signed with the Redskins as a free agent last March, but appeared in just two games, completing 5-of-7 passes for 39 yards while getting sacked three times.
Rob Johnson also has played for Jacksonville and Buffalo.
To clear a roster spot, the Raiders released running back-kick returner Ronney Jenkins.
One season after reaching the Super Bowl, Oakland has lost four straight and is in third place in the AFC West, six games behind front-running Kansas City.
