Biffle wins Busch pole

HAMPTON, Ga., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Greg Biffle had a record qualifying time Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway to earn the pole for Saturday's NASCAR Busch Series Aaron's 312.

Kevin Harvick had broken the race's qualifying record before Biffle posted a speed of 192.300 miles per hour in his Chevrolet Monte Carlo. A regular on the Winston Cup circuit, Biffle is the reigning Busch Series champion.

Harvick, a distant second to Matt Kenseth in the Winston Cup standings, qualified second at 192.053 mph in a Chevrolet. He was followed by David Green in a Pontiac and Casey Mears in a Dodge.

The real battle should come from those Busch Series regulars fighting for the championship.

Brian Vickers leads with 4,117 points, 23 more than Green, 34 ahead of Jason Keller, 40 better than Ron Hornaday and 44 more than Scott Riggs.
