Jets dump Jamie Martin

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Oct. 22 (UPI) -- In their continuing game of musical chairs at quarterback, the New York Jets Wednesday released Jamie Martin.

Martin became expendable when the decision was made to play Chad Pennington, who has been recovering from a fractured and dislocated left wrist, an injury suffered in the preseason.

Martin, 33, an eight-year NFL veteran, signed with the Jets on Aug. 26, was waived on Sept. 3, and re-signed on Sept. 8.

He was inactive for each of the team's five games, four of them as the designated third quarterback. He did not play a down this season.

The Weber State University product has played in 25 career games, making three starts, and has completed 199-of-310 passes for 2,141 yards, with 14 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions.

The Jets said earlier this week that Pennington will get some playing time Sunday against Philadelphia, although veteran Vinny Testaverde again will start.

The Jets also have signed guard Brandon Moore to the active roster from the practice squad.
