NBA: New Orleans 89, Orlando 84

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Baron Davis, who played only 50 games last season, scored 20 points Tuesday to lead New Orleans in an 89-84 preseason victory over Orlando.

The Hornets had two key reserves suffer injuries in the game as forward Robert Traylor left in the first quarter with a prained right ankle and guard Courtney Alexander had to be helped off the court following a jump shot in the fourth.

Former Magic guard Darrell Armstrong scored 12 points on 4-of-13 shooting and put the Hornets up for good on a 3-pointer with 47 seconds left that made it 85-84.

Free-agent signee Shammond Williams scored 14 for Orlando, as did Steven Hunter and Gordan Giricek. The Magic had six scorers in double figures.

Jamaal Magloire led the Hornets with 12 rebounds to go with eight points.

Forward Jamal Mashburn sat out for New Orleans, while forward Drew Gooden did not play for Orlando.
