MLB: NY Yankees 4, Boston 3

BOSTON, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Roger Clemens allowed two runs in six innings Saturday as the New York Yankees edged the Boston Red Sox, 4-3, and took a 2-1 lead in the ALCS.

Making his last start in the ballpark in which he went 100-55, Clemens survived a rocky first inning and yielded five hits and a walk.

Clemens departed with a 4-2 lead and the Yankees' bullpen gave up a run in the seventh. With his team on the verge of regaining home-field advantage, New York Manager Joe Torre turned to his closer Mariano Rivera who cruised through the last two innings.

The game was deadlocked, 2-2, in the fourth before New York went ahead on a ground-rule double by Hideki Matsui.

Clemens allowed just one hit over his final three innings.

Game Four is Sunday night, with the Yankees sending lefthander David Wells to the mound against veteran righthander John Burkett.
