Hanson done for season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have lost punter Chris Hanson for the season after he was injured in a freak accident.

While using the Jaguars' symbolic axe to chop a tree stump in the team's locker room Thursday morning, Hanson ended up with a gash in his right leg. The Florida Times-Union had reported Friday that Hanson would miss a minimum of four to six weeks.

The injury occurred as Hanson, who was voted to the Pro Bowl last season, was taking part in the "keep choppin' wood" theme of Coach Jack Del Rio. The axe was removed after the incident.

Hanson was placed on the reserve-non-football injury list Friday, when the Jaguars signed former Miami Dolphins' punter Mark Royals. Hanson's leg will be in a boot for four to six weeks.

"The rest of the team was at meetings," said Coach Jack Del Rio. "The specialists have a little more free time on their hands. I'll find another slogan."

Ironically, the Jaguars play the Dolphins on Sunday.
