Henman advances to third round

VIENNA, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Tim Henman advanced to the third round of the CA Tennis trophy Wednesday with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 win over Sjeng Schalken.

The loss could be a costly one for Schalken, who is 12th in the ATP Champions Race and needs to move up to eighth in order to qualify for one of three remaining spots in the Tennis Masters Cup Houston.

The only other second-round match Wednesday saw Jarkko Nieminen defeat Juan Ignacio Chela, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.

Second seed Carlos Moya and eighth seed Albert Costa were first-round winners.

Moya, seventh in the Champions Race, defeated Fernando Gonzalez, 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1. Costa, the 2002 French Open champion, beat Sargis Sargsian, 6-4, 6-4. It was just the second win in seven matches for Costa since reaching the semifinals of the French Open in June.
