TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Emmanuelle Gagliardi and fourth seed Virginia Ruano of Spain notched straight-sets win Wednesday in the second round of the Tashkent Open.
Gagliardi defeated Austrian Patricia Wartusch, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), to move into the quarterfinals of this Tier IV hardcourt event. The 27-year-old Gagliardi is seeking her first career WTA title.
Ruano Pascual, who is looking for her third career title and first since 2001, cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 romp over France's Stephanie Foretz. In the quarterfinals, Ruano Pascaul will face sixth-seeded American Jill Craybas, who got past Ukrainian Yulia Beygelzimer, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
No. 8 Jelena Kostanic of Croatia was the other seeded player to move into the quarterfinals as she dispatched Russian Maria Kirilenko, 6-4, 7-5.
