Ankle surgery for Mark Dixon

DAVIE, Fla., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Offensive tackle Mark Dixon of the Miami Dolphins has undergone surgery on his ailing right ankle.

Coach Dave Wannstedt said Dixon had the ankle "cleaned out." After undergoing the same procedure in August, Dixon missed Miami's first three games of the season.

The six-year veteran has been sidelined with injuries for 13 of the Dolphins' last 35 regular-season games. He will miss at least Sunday's game against the New York Giants, but the Dolphins hope he will be able to return this season.

"We'll see how he reacts after having it cleaned out," Wannstedt said.

Miami did get some positive news on the injury front.

Quarterback Brian Griese will suit up as the Dolphins' third quarterback Sunday after missing the entire season to this point with an injured toe.
