San Francisco 6, Los Angeles 3

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Jose Cruz Jr. drilled a three-run homer off Guillermo Mota in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday night to list San Francisco past Los Angeles, 6-3.

The win gave the Giants a split of their day-night doubleheader.

San Francisco can earn home-field advantage over Atlanta with a win in Sunday's season finale and a loss by the Braves at Philadelphia. Earlier Saturday, the Giants opted against playing a makeup game against the Mets in New York which would have enhanced their chances.

For Cruz, it was the third time he has homered at least 20 times in a season, and dropped Mota to 6-3.

The blast made a winner of Joe Nathan (12-4), who allowed one hit in the top of the eighth. Closer Tim Worrell bounced back from a terrible outing in the first game by recording the final three outs for his 38th save in 45 chances.
