Chicago White Sox 7, Boston 2

BOSTON, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox kept pace in baseball's tightest division race Sunday as Carlos Lee homered and had three RBI in a 7-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox.

Lefthander Mark Buehrle pitched seven solid innings for the White Sox, who maintained a share of the American League Central Division lead with Minnesota. Kansas City stayed 3 1/2 games off the pace.

The second batter of the game, Lee opened the scoring with a two-run homer -- his 30th -- and made it 4-2 with an RBI double in the fifth. He left the game in the seventh with an apparent leg injury.

Frank Thomas sealed the win with a two-run double in the ninth as Chicago took two of three games in a battle of playoff hopefuls.

John Burkett (10-8) was tagged for five runs in six innings.
