NY Yankees 5, Detroit 2

NEW YORK, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Jorge Posada's two-run single in the fourth put New York ahead to stay Thursday night as the Yankees completed a sweep of Detroit, 5-2.

Detroit had a 2-1 lead when Posada's single scored Derek Jeter and Jason Giambi. Posada then tried to steal second and was called safe by umpire Paul Schreiber, although replays showed that he clearly was out.

The play was ruled an error on shortstop Ramon Santiago for missing the tag.

Hideki Matsui then singled to center field, but Posada was called out at the plate despite clearly getting in underneath catcher Brandon Inge's tag.

In the sixth, with the Yankees up 4-2, Posada was involved in another play at the plate when Craig Monroe singled to left. Dmitri Young rumbled towards the plate, but Posada corralled a wild throw from Matsui and tagged Young to end the threat.
