Els records sixth win of year

CRANS-SUR-SIERRE, Switzerland, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- South African Ernie Els shot a 7-under-par 65 Sunday to post his sixth win of the year at the Omega European Masters.

Els finished at 17-under-par 267 at Crans-sur-Sierre to claim the $185,000 first prize and increase his lead at the top of the Order of Merit.

The World No. 2 finished six shots ahead of New Zealand's Michael Campbell. Third-round leader Eduardo Romero of Argentina was a shot behind in third.

The 49-year-old Romero was trying to become the oldest ever winner on tour at, but was the only player in the field not to card a single birdie Sunday as he struggled to a 74.

Defending champion Robert Karlsson of Sweden, Italy's Emanuele Canonica and Scot Andrew Coltart were the first players to earn Ryder Cup qualifying points in a tie for fourth at nine under.
