Virginia Tech 43, James Madison 0

BLACKSBURG, Va., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Cedric Humes rushed for three touchdowns in place of Kevin Jones Saturday afternoon as No. 9 Virginia Tech routed Division I-AA James Madison, 43-0.

Jones, the Hokies' star running back, suffered injuries to both hands when he was shoved out of bounds by on a play by JMU defensive end Demetrius Shambley early in the second quarter. X-rays were negative.

Jones was cleared to return, but remained on the sidelines.

Humes had little trouble picking up the slack against the overmatched Dukes (1-1). He scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter to give the Hokies (2-0) a 20-0 lead before adding scoring runs of one and 11 yards in the third.

Virginia Tech quarterback Bryan Randall completed 13-of-20 passes for 153 yards and added 55 yards rushing and a touchdown.
