ALOHA, Ore., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Tom Watson matched the best round of his incredible career Friday, carding a 10-under-par 62 for a four-stroke lead midway through The Tradition.

The 62 equaled Watson's previous-best score, accomplished in the third round of the 1999 Bank One Championship. He posted three 63s on the PGA Tour.

Watson is seeking his second major title of the season, having won the Senior British Open at Turnberry in his last start. It is his only title of the season along with four runner-up finishes.

At 14-under 130, Watson was four strokes better than first-round co-leaders Jim Ahern and Hale Irwin.
