Karlsson leads BMW International

MUNICH, Germany, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Robert Karlsson had two eagles and chipped in for a birdie Friday en route to a 36-hole total of 129 and a two-shot lead at the BMW International.

Raphael Jacquelin, who equaled the course record of 62 at Nord-Eichenreid Thursday, shot a 69 to finish alone in second. Irish Open runner-up Peter Hedblom shared third at 132 with Gary Emerson and Lee Westwood was among those at 133.

Westwood's performance could signal an end to the spectacular loss of form which has seen him slump from fourth in the world to 215th.

Westwood has not won since his seven victories in 2000, which saw him end Colin Montgomerie's seven-year reign as European No. 1.

"It's nice to be in contention again, I haven't been for quite a while," said Westwood who did not have a single top-10 finish in 2002.
