NY Yankees 7, Baltimore 0

NEW YORK, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Jose Contreras allowed three singles in seven innings Sunday and Jorge Posada had a three-run homer as the New York Yankees beat Baltimore, 7-0.

Activated from the disabled list prior to the game, Contreras (4-1) was spectacular in his third start of the season. The Cuban righthander, who made his first appearance since June 5, struck out five.

Baltimore never sent more than four men to the plate in any inning. Contreras retired the last nine batters he faced and left with a 7-0 lead.

Posada gave Contreras the early lead with his 24th homer, a shot over the left-center field wall with two outs in the first

inning. Posada's 23rd hit in his last 50 at-bats came off Baltimore starter Eric DuBose (1-4) who was hammered for seven runs and six hits in 2 1/3 innings.
