Atlanta had lost three in a row for the first time since its opening three games of the season and avoided its first four-game slide in nearly 16 months.

Hampton (10-5) won his seventh consecutive decision, giving up just three hits and two walks while striking out five. It is his longest winning streak since posting 11 straight wins with the Houston Astros in 1999.

Sheffield extended his hitting streak to 17 games with an RBI single in the first inning and added a two-run double in the fourth. Chipper Jones and Vinny Castilla homered for the Braves.
