SAN DIEGO, July 31 (UPI) -- Justine Henin-Hardenne rallied for a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Elena Dementieva Thursday and a quarterfinal berth at the Acura Classic.
The French Open Champion was joined by second-seeded Kim Clijsters, who sped past French teen Marion Bartoli, 6-1, 6-1 in 53 minutes.
Dementieva looked to have Henin-Hardenne on the ropes after cashing in her seventh set point on a botched drop shot by the Belgian.
The Russian grabbed a 4-2 lead with a service break in a lengthy game. But she began to feel the hot sun and high humidity on center court at La Costa Hotel and Spa.
In other matches, sixth-seeded American Chanda Rubin overcame a shaky start 2002 finalist Jelena Dokic, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, and Russian Nadia Petrova upset No. 7 seed Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia, 6-1, 6-3.
